Fatal Sports Injuries
At some point in the relatively recent past, the pursuit of athletic accomplishments through sports
made the transition from desirable hobby to an almost dangerous obsession. Whether driven by money,
fame, or simply the desire to push the boundaries of the human body, the intensity of competitive athletics
has grown at an exponential rate. Moreover, this pressure to succeed has trickled down from the professional
ranks into the earliest phases of preparatory development. Tragically, coaches sometimes fail to heed
the danger posed by environmental circumstances, or overly aggressive competition leads to fatal injuries.
As you attempt to cope with the sudden and unexpected loss of your loved one, there are many factors
that you must consider as you try to find your way forward. We can help you to develop awareness about

Causes of Sports Fatalities
There is, of course, an inherent injury risk that participants tacitly accept when they begin to participate
in a particular sport. In baseball, for example, being hit by the ball is an obvious hazard. Playing
football guarantees the frequent occurrence of violent physical contact. But when fatalities occur,
it is rarely (except in auto racing) due to these expected dangers. Sports related deaths may occur
due to:
- Overexertion in extreme heat, humidity, cold, or other unsafe environmental conditions
- Intentionally malicious contact that is readily construed as assault
- Defective helmets or other safety devices
- Failure to observe doctor’s warnings about existing health concerns
