MRSA and Medical Malpractice

One dangerous and aggressive type of staph infection is Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA. This bacterium is incredibly dangerous to humans because it is resistant to many antibiotics. As such, it cannot be treated as easily as other staph infections. One of the most common locations for people to contract MRSA is in a hospital or doctor’s office, and unfortunately, this can be especially dangerous because many people visiting these facilities already have weakened immune systems and are not able to effectively fight off such a serious infection.

Roughly 20 percent of the people who contract MRSA every year in the United States die from the infection. If you have lost a loved one to MRSA because of an unsanitary healthcare facility or any other act of medical negligence, you may be eligible to receive financial compensation. To speak with a qualified legal representative about your options, contact the Pennsylvania wrongful death lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C., today at 610-667-7511 and schedule an initial consultation.

Symptoms of MRSA

Generally, patients can develop MRSA either during hospitalization or outside the hospital at a doctor’s office, nursing home, or other healthcare facility. Roughly 85 percent of all infections are healthcare related with a third of all cases happening inside hospitals. Some common symptoms of MRSA include:

  • Small red bumps on the skin, like boils or insect bites
  • Larger fluid-filled boils or painful abscesses if the infection spreads

These boils can eventually burrow deep into your body and can eventually affect vital organs, leading to death in some instances.
