Abortion Doctor’s License Pulled

Posted on February 26th, 2010 No Comments

One woman died and several women were injured by an abortion doctor whose license was finally suspended Monday. State officials were shocked at the deplorable conditions. They found his clinic highly unsanitary, and he employed several unlicensed technicians who would examine patients and administer medication. In 1999, one woman nearly died before she went to the hospital and discovered that the doctor had left her aborted baby's arm and a leg inside her. The doctor punctured another woman's colon and uterus during an abortion in 1987, where she almost bled to death.

His license has been suspended for 30 days, but that could increase to 180 days if the State of Pennsylvania can prove its case against the doctor. He has been cited for having uncertified help and poor conditions in the past, losing several lawsuits. He has been licensed since 1967 but was recently labeled by authorities as dangerous to the public.

Bus Crash Kills 1

Posted on February 24th, 2010 No Comments

A 38-year-old school bus driver crashed into a car Wednesday morning, killing the car's 27-year-old passenger on impact. The car's driver was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was not injured in the crash, nor were the 45 students onboard.

He was involved in another fatal crash in 1999 that killed a 2-year-old girl, broadsiding a vehicle with the girl and her mother in it. He had run a stop sign as he was dialing his cell phone, police said. No criminal charges were filed against him at the time. He was not prohibited from obtaining his commercial driver's license after the 1999 crash.

Man Dies After 10 Emergency Calls

Posted on February 19th, 2010 No Comments

Pittsburgh officials vow to change the emergency response system after the death of a 50-year-old man during a blizzard. The man and his girlfriend called 911 a total of 10 times over 30 hours, but an ambulance never arrived, and the man died. Three separate ambulance dispatches stopped before arriving at the house. One ambulance stopped only a few blocks from their home. Authorities say road conditions in the blizzard and a larger number of emergency calls kept the ambulances from reaching their destination.

EMS responders asked if the afflicted man could walk out to the ambulance, but a Pittsburgh public safety official says that is uncalled for. The official said EMS responders should have walked a few blocks to the house themselves. City officials say they have already implemented short-term changes, and the city will continue to work on long-term changes.

Posted on February 19th, 2010 No Comments

A retired trooper was hit by a truck and killed Thursday night when he stopped to check on his broken-down car, police say. The 65-year-old was driving on Interstate 80 near Wolf Creek, Pa., authorities say, when he stopped his car in the right lane. The retired trooper walked in front of his car toward the driver's side and stepped into the left lane of the highway, a witness told police.

Police say a tractor-trailer that was changing lanes struck the man and didn't stop. The retired trooper was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authories say. Police plan to discuss the hit-and-run this morning.

School Bus Accident Kills 1, Seriously Injures 1

Posted on February 19th, 2010 No Comments

A school bus carrying 45 middle-school students turned into an oncoming Honda Civic, killing the 27-year-old passenger and seriously injuring the 41-year-old driver Wednesday. The accident occurred near an Allentown, Pa. middle school. The school nurse treated five students on the bus for minor injuries.

The bus driver was cited in 1999 for careless driving in an accident that killed a 2-year-old girl. School officials said that when he was hired in 2009, his background check only went back five years and thus did not include the incident. Authorities say his recent driving record is clean. Police are still investigating the case to determine if alcohol was involved and if the bus driver is at fault.

White-Out Causes Fatal Wreck

A 52-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle accident Thursday. Three others were injured. The woman was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center about an hour after the wreck. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Snow had drifted onto the road at the scene of the crash, and when a plow truck started clearing the snow it caused white-out conditions. The victim lost control of her car and a van struck her from behind, followed by a pickup truck hitting the van from behind. Three people in the van were taken to the hospital.
