Truck driver dies in rollover accident

A 50-year-old trucker was killed over the weekend when the tanker truck he was driving flipped several times in Blair County, Pa., authorities said. Police said the truck leaned to the side as he entered a curve, and the rear tires ran over the curb. The tanker slid across an intersection before rolling several times, authorities said.

The full tank of water disconnected from the truck in the crash, police said, and the truck came to a stop upside-down on its roof. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene, authorities said. Police continued to investigate the contributing causes of the crash. The driving accident was a shock to locals and officials in the area.

Worker crushed by road grader

A 42-year-old PennDOT worker was killed Thursday afternoon when he fell off a road grader and became trapped underneath it, authorities said. Police said he climbed onto the vehicle before it started to move. As it slowly traveled, the man fell off, authorities said, and was crushed under the vehicle. The vehicle’s operator could not stop in time, police said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities said he died instantly in the construction accident. The man was a temporary employee with PennDOT and was expected to leave the position at the end of April. Authorities are investigating the accident.

Man killed by train at Philadelphia station

A man was hit and killed by a train at a North Philadelphia train station Sunday morning, authorities said. The man fell or jumped off the platform at Huntington Station and was hit by a southbound train, according to a spokesperson for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. Authorities said the man was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.

Investigators will be reviewing security camera footage to determine if the man slipped or jumped off the platform. Service on that train route was been suspended for investigation, but shuttle buses were provided for passengers.

1 killed, 7 injured in apartment fire

A fire spread throughout a Greene County, Pa., apartment Thursday morning , killing one woman and injuring seven other people, authorities said. Firefighters say the fire started at the top of the building and spread to almost every unit. Most residents were seniors or handicapped.

The woman who died lived in the apartment where the fire is believed to have started, authorities said. Seven people suffered smoke-related injuries, authorities said. Several people didn’t immediately respond to smoke alarms because they assumed, as one woman said, that someone just burned their dinner.

Tree-trimmer dies in electrocution accident

A 30-year-old man was believed to be electrocuted Tuesday morning while trimming a tree in a neighborhood near Pittsburgh, Pa., authorities said. Police said the fatal electrocution occurred when a branch fell onto a power line. The man had been in a harness attached to the tree, authorities said, and it held him in the tree even after he was electrocuted.

Passenger killed in crash

A 17-year-old girl was killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Hanover, Pa., authorities said. She was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle when it hit a tree, police said. Pickup, tractor-trailer collision leaves 1 dead

Girl killed in hit-and-run

A 17-year-old girl was killed Wednesday night when a work van hit her and drove away in Cheltenham Township, Pa., authorities said. The high school junior and her 12-year-old brother were crossing the street near their home when the hit-and-run driver killed her. Her brother was not injured.
