One killed, one injured in 2-vehicle crash

A man was killed and a woman was injured Monday morning when a southbound vehicle hit a northbound vehicle on Route 441 in West Hempfield Township, Pa., authorities said. The man driving northbound suffered fatal injuries, police said, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The 31-year-old woman driving the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital, authorities said. The roadway was closed for four hours while police investigated the scene. The accident is still being investigated.

Motorcyclist thrown from bike, killed

A 45-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle was sandwiched between two other vehicles in Monroe, Pa., authorities said. The man was thrown from his bike on impact and pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The motorcyclist was slowing behind a minivan that had stopped with its turn signal on, waiting to turn into a driveway, authorities said. A 73-year-old woman driving up behind them said she didn’t see the motorcycle slowing or the stopped minivan in front of him, police report. The woman smashed the motorcycle into the back of the minivan, authorities said.

Man dies in apartment fire

The 71-year-old owner of a diner in the Pocono Mountains was killed Wednesday in a fire, authorities said. Pennsylvania State Police have ruled the fire as arson, saying it was intentionally set.

The fire started early in the morning inside an apartment behind the diner, investigators said, and it spread from there. The man was able to escape from his unit on the second floor, authorities said, but he was badly burned in the process and died at the hospital.
