A Missouri jury has sided with the plaintiffs in a wrongful death lawsuit, and awarded them $1 million in damages.
A couple filed the lawsuit against their obstetrician after their daughter died in the woman’s womb before an emergency C section could be performed. The couple claim that their obstetrician didn’t react to distressed heart signals of the fetus in a fast and timely manner, and because of this negligence the baby did not survive.
The jury agreed that the obstetrician was at fault for not delivering the baby in time, and failing to respond to the warning signs. They awarded the couple $1,012,541 for prior damages, as well as future damages.

Medical malpractice lawsuit filed by grieving parents
Posted on Monday, December 19th, 2011 at 6:01 pm
The parents of a 17-year-old girl in Maryland who passed away have filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the anesthesiologist and oral surgeon who performed her wisdom tooth surgery in March. According to the suit, the doctors’ negligence during the surgery ultimately led to the teenager’s death.
The official cause of death was hypoxia, which can be traced back to the lack of oxygen that was administered to the young girl during the surgery 10 days prior to her untimely passing. The anesthesiologist should have been monitoring her oxygen levels more intensely during the routine surgery.
While under anesthesia, the teen had a declining heart rate as well as a low blood oxygen level. Both the oral surgeon and anesthesiologist did nothing while the alarming rates were occurring and her parents believe that they could have saved her life if they were more attentive.
Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Two doctors, that were defendants in the case, were deemed to be responsible for the damage. One was found to be 60 percent responsible and the other 40 percent. The judge determined that $2 million was to be awarded to the victim for damages associated with this procedure.

Medical Malpractice lawsuit ends in $2.5M award
Posted on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 at 8:42 pm
$2.5 million was awarded to a Maryland man’s family four years after he died.
A malpractice lawsuit was filed by 59-year-old Lawrence Dixon’s family after he died two days after he fell and fractured his pelvis in May of 2007. Dixon was treated for his fracture by Dr. David Harding at Montgomery General Hospital. The cause of Dixon’s death was due to internal bleeding that led to his organs shutting down.
The lawsuit claims that Dr. Harding is to blame for Dixon’s death, since he failed to noticed the man’s internal bleeding. According to the family’s lawyer, Dixon’s rapid heartbeat and low blood pressure should have caught the doctor’s attention, as they are both signs of blood loss.
Of the $2.5 million that was awarded by the Montgomery County Circuit Court jury, $250,000 was given to both of Dixon’s children, and another $2 million was given to his wife and estate.
