Posted on February 7th, 2012 No Comments

A $5 million settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit has been awarded to the mother of a 16-year-old who passed away after being struck by a school bus in Buchanan County, Missouri.

The accident took place over a year ago when a 23-year-old bus driver ran over the teenager. The weather was icy and cold and the bus driver had only gone through a 30-second inspection before beginning her route. According to reports, the windows on the school bus were so iced over that the driver would open the doors of the bus at intersections in order to be able to see.

The mother of the slain teenager has been waiting for an apology and an admittance of guilt from the transportation company, First Student, Inc., and she is just glad that it has finally come. First Student, Inc. has been ordered to pay the woman $5 million in damages.

The family of an Arkansas teenager has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of a tractor-trailer that hit and killed the teenager in Texas last August.

The driver, as well as his employer, will be acting as the defendants in the case. The family is claiming that the man was acting negligently when he was texting and driving just before hitting the teenager near Hooks, Texas. The lawsuit states that he dropped his phone on the floorboard of his car, and when he tried to retrieve it, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the teenager. The Arkansas teenager was outside of her vehicle because she had just been involved in another car accident and she was assessing the damage of her car.

The accident happened along Interstate 30 and the tractor-trailer driver also crashed into the other vehicle involved in the initial wreck. Three people were taken to the hospital, including the driver, to be treated for varying injuries. The teenager died at the scene. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed on Friday in East Texas.
