A $5 million settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit has been awarded to the mother of a 16-year-old who passed away after being struck by a school bus in Buchanan County, Missouri.
The accident took place over a year ago when a 23-year-old bus driver ran over the teenager. The weather was icy and cold and the bus driver had only gone through a 30-second inspection before beginning her route. According to reports, the windows on the school bus were so iced over that the driver would open the doors of the bus at intersections in order to be able to see.
The mother of the slain teenager has been waiting for an apology and an admittance of guilt from the transportation company, First Student, Inc., and she is just glad that it has finally come. First Student, Inc. has been ordered to pay the woman $5 million in damages.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this tough time.
