Three Pennsylvania families file wrongful death suits

On February 9, 2011, massive fires due to a gas explosion erupted in Allentown, Pennsylvania ruining numerous homes in the area. Several people lost their lives in the fires as well, and that is where the wrongful death lawsuits come into play.

Three separate Pennsylvania families have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the Reading company, UGI. The suits claim that the company acted negligently when looking into old and faulty gas pipes in the area where the explosion ultimately occurred and believe their negligence resulted in the deaths of their family members.

They are seeking damages under the Pennsylvania Wrongful Death Act. The actual amount being sought in the cases have not been released publicly.

Upper Big Branch wrongful death lawsuits settled

All of the wrongful death lawsuits pertaining to the mining disaster at Upper Big Branch have been settled, according to representatives for the families. The huge West Virginia mining disaster that happened in 2010 took the lives of 29 miners.

The lawsuits were filed by the families of the deceased minors against Alpha Natural Resources, the company now held responsible for the huge mining explosion. The last 13 families agreed on settlements offered by Alpha, only after several days of conference meetings.

The families are pleased with the settlements, but they ultimately want the people who were responsible for the safety conditions of the mine to be prosecuted. The amount of the wrongful death lawsuit settlements were not made public.

Two wrongful death lawsuits filed against tour helicopter company

A terrible helicopter accident in Las Vegas, Nevada that occurred early in December left all passengers as well as the pilot dead.

Sundance Helicopters Incorporated is the company responsible for putting on the helicopter tour in Las Vegas, Nevada that killed five people, two couples and the pilot. The second wrongful death lawsuit in the crash has recently been filed.

The four children of one of the couples aboard the helicopter  have filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Their parents were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. The damages they are looking to obtain were not specified in the filing. Earlier in the month, family members of a honeymooning couple also sought damages in a wrongful death lawsuit against the helicopter company.

Illegal plastic surgery prompts a wrongful death lawsuit

A 42-year-old mother of three has passed away after a botched cosmetic surgery.

The Las Vegas woman was undergoing cosmetic surgery on her buttocks when she developed a severe reaction to lidocaine and died shortly after the injection. A Colombian husband and wife were behind the botched surgery. They came from Colombia to establish an illegal medical practice in Las Vegas.

The couple is currently in jail serving time for involuntary manslaughter. The woman’s husband, as well as her children, have filed two separate wrongful death lawsuits against the surgeons, asking for upwards of $10,000 in damages for their loss.

Pennsylvania family files a wrongful death lawsuit

A 9-year-old Pennsylvania boy was killed at a 3-day nature camp in Maryland and his family has now filed a wrongful death suit.

The boy attended a nature camp at an environmental center when a tree fell on him and he was taken to a Baltimore hospital. He died two days later at the hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained from the accident.

His parents are suing the county in Maryland that put on the camp. They are stating that the county should have been more aware of the unsafe environment that consisted of high winds and dead trees in the area. Damages sought in the case are close to $12 million.

Pennsylvania company sued over infant’s death

A Pennsylvania company responsible for making the Nap Nanny is being sued by a couple who claim that the malfunction of this device caused the death of their four-month-old daughter.

The wrongful death lawsuit alleges that the Nap Nanny malfunctioned trapping the young girl inside thus resulting in her death. The couple is claiming that the company, Baby Matters LLC, did not provide proper safety warning labels on the product.

The death of the young girl caused the company to issue a recall of 30,000 Nap Nannies across the United States. The couple is looking to receive $75,000 from the lawsuit.

Conrad Murray sentenced to jail time for wrongful death lawsuit

Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in prison as a result of a wrongful death lawsuit pertaining to Michael Jackson.

The cardiologist, who a jury determined was guilty of involuntary manslaughter, was sentenced to the maximum amount of jail time relating to his conviction. The wrongful death lawsuit has officially been closed after the sentencing was complete.

Murray will more than likely serve two years of his sentence in a county jail because of overpopulation.

Conrad Murray found guilty in wrongful death suit

This afternoon Conrad Murray was found guilty of the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson. The verdict came after just two days of deliberation by the jury.

The cardiologist, who has practices in Las Vegas and Houston, had treated Jackson and his children between the years of 2006 and 2008. He was accused of being negligent while administering a drug in the Jackson home.

Jackson died in his home on June 25, 2009 after ingesting a lethal dose propofol.

The wrongful death lawsuit lasted six weeks in court with over 40 witnesses being heard by the jury. Murray faces up to four years in prison and will lose his medical license.

Philadelphia hospital held accountable in wrongful death suit

A $2.4 million decision has been awarded for damages in a wrongful death lawsuit against a Philadelphia hospital.

The lawsuit was brought on by the estate of a patient at a Philadelphia hospital who underwent knee replacement surgery and later died as a direct result of post-operative drugs lethally mixing.

The hospital has been held accountable for administering morphine and anesthesia, which together created a deadly interaction in the patient’s body, and inattention to the patient. Once a patient is given multiple drugs that could have the potential to mix in a negative way, it is the responsibility of the hospital to monitor that said patient.

Wrongful death trial in Maryland begin closing arguments

In Baltimore, Maryland the closing arguments have begun for a wrongful death trial. The trial revolves around a murder that happened on an inmate bus in the state of Maryland.

Prison inmates were being transported from one location to another when an inmate was brutally killed by another inmate. The parents of the inmate that was murdered are claiming negligence by the state. According to them, there were five officers on the bus that did nothing to stop the attack from occurring. The inmate officially died from being strangled.

The plaintiffs are looking to make $21 million from the outcome of this wrongful death suit.
